Head Gymnastics Coach John Spini Kicks Off Sparky's Tour
Sept. 8, 2009
Sparky's Tour gears up for the 2009-10 season by heading to PT Coe Elementary School. After a successful inaugural campaign, Sparky's Tour has teamed up with the Mary Lou Fulton School of Education ad Access ASU to assist local educators in stressing the value of education to Arizona youth. Head gymnastics coach John Spini and two of his former standout gymnasts will head to the Phoenix grade school to encourage students to work hard, make positive choices, and spread goodwill.
Former standout gymnasts Nicole Harris and Tiana Jean will accompany Spini in the first stop. Harris earned All-American honors on the balance beam in 2006 while Jean was given Pac-10 All-Around accolades in 2008. Both are on track to graduate with Harris majoring in Spanish and Jean in elementary education.
During the 2009-2010 school year Sparky's Tour will make appearances at schools beginning the first week of September and continuing through the end of May. Sparky's Tour will continue to feature ASU coaches, administrators and student-athletes emphasizing the importance of education, and that everyone has the ability to be successful if they work hard, focus and follow the rules. Coaches and student-athletes have been through the same struggles that current students face. Utilizing speakers that students can relate to reinforces what teachers and administrators are helping their students to learn.
