Spokane, Wash. - The Oregon State men's soccer team embarked on their first road trip of the season this week and was quickly tested at Gonzaga where it came away with a 1-1 tie in 1OT in a hard fought, darkness shortened, match Tuesday night at Gonzaga Soccer Field.

The match was shortened to one 10 minute overtime period due to darkness. It was a very physical match with a combined seven yellow cards in the game, five of which went to the Beavers. They also tallied 18 fouls in the match.

Oregon State (2-0-1) scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute of the match on a long pass from Alex Penny to Eddy Prugh who dribbled and then fired a left to right shot from 18 feet past the Bulldog goalie Scott Barnum. Prugh's goal marked the first of his career at Oregon State.

Gonzaga (1-1-2) was not to be outdone and came back with a late goal of its own to tie the game in the 84th minute. Gonzaga's Joel Schilperoort was taken down inside the Oregon State goal box trying to split the defense. Ben Funkhouser took the penalty kick and punched it past Steve Spangler in the lower left hand corner.

Spangler finished the game with four saves. He has played every minute of the season so far for the Beavers.

The Beavers had a chance to win the game in the overtime period but were denied. Justin Woodward had a shot on goal in the sixth minute of overtime but it was saved by Barnum.

Oregon State had 10 shots in the game though only two of them were on goal.

The Beavers stay in Spokane, Wash. through the weekend as they compete in the Gonzaga/Nike Soccer Classic where they take on Detroit Mercy Friday Sept. 11 at 1:30pm and Detroit Southern Sunday Sept. 13 at 10:30 am.
