No. 1 Women's Golf Tied for Lead at TOPY Cup

The Arizona State women's golf team concluded day one of the TOPY Cup tied for first with fellow American team Wake Forest. The TOPY Cup is being held at the par 72 Tanagura Country Club in Tanagura, Japan. The reigning NCAA Champion Sun Devils shot a 2-under 286 in the first round to tie with the No. 6 Demon Deacons.
Junior Jaclyn Sweeney is tied for first after carding a 2-under 70 in the first round. The Boston-area native birdied three holes to finish round one tied with Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest.
Returning All-Americans Juliana Murcia and Carlota Ciganda each tallied a 1-under 72. Senior Murcia carded three birdies in her first round effort to finish the day tied for third with Ciganda, Michelle Shin of Wake Forest, Tomoka Shiga of Nihon University, Kaori Toki of Nagoya University of Commerce and Maiko Yamaura of Otemae University. Ciganda birdied four holes in the first round, including two consecutive on holes 15 and 16.
The Sun Devils will continue to play in the TOPY Cup through Thursday.
