UCLA's Brian Perk Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Sept. 8, 2009

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior goalkeeper Brian Perk has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 7, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., native led the Bruins to a 2-0 upset win over top-ranked and defending national champion Maryland on Friday, snapping the Terrapins' 16-match winning streak. Perk made a career-high 10 saves, one short of the school's single-game record of 11. He withstood 19 shot attempts by Maryland to preserve the shutout, making five saves in each half. Against Georgetown, Perk blocked one shot in the Hoyas 2-0 victory over the Bruins.

With the 11 saves this weekend, Perk moved up to fifth on UCLA's career saves list with 199.

This is the third weekly honor for Perk, and UCLA's Conference leading 36th Pac-10 Player of the Week.

Also nominated: Andrew Wiedeman, CAL; Danny Mwanga, OSU; Garrett Gunther, STAN
