'What a great day today was in the beautiful northern mountains of Japan!' said associate head coach Missy Farr-Kaye, who is on the trip. 'The girls really played well and stayed patient. There were some difficult hole locations today, but for the most part they managed the fast greens and windier weather well.'
Senior Juliana Murcia leads the field after the first two rounds. The native of Bogota, Colombia tied her career-low round the second day with a 5-under 67. With a two-round total of 6-under 138 (71-67), the returning All-American capped her day with an eagle on the par-5 580-yard ninth hole.
'Juliana started off fast and just continued great play the rest of the day finishing with an eagle on hole nine,' said Farr-Kaye. 'As a team we played hole nine five under par which is outstanding.'
Junior Jaclyn Sweeney continued to have a strong tournament as she shot par in the second round. The junior is currently tied for third at 2-under 142 (70-72). Giulia Molinaro knocked in three birdies on her back nine to finish the day 3-under 69. She is in fifth after two rounds at 1-under 143 (74-69).
'Giulia made some small adjustments going into today and turned in a very solid 69,' said Farr-Kaye. 'Jackie struggled in the middle of the round but brought it back to even par.'
Sophomore All-American Carlota Ciganda knocked in two birdies in her last two holes of the day to close out the second round tied for sixth at an even 144 (71-73). Liisa Kelo improved on her first-round score, shooting a 6-over 78 in the second round. The senior is currently 14-over 158 (80-78).
