Women's Soccer Defeats Seattle for Fourth Straight Win

EUGENE, Ore. - Ashley Seal scored the only goal of the match while Colleen Boyd posted her first shutout of the year as the Oregon State women's soccer team captured its fourth straight victory with a 1-0 win over Seattle in the opener of the Oregon Nike Invitational on Friday evening. With the win, Oregon State improves to 4-1-0 on the year while Seattle fell to 4-3-0 with the loss.
Seal's second goal of the season put the Beavers on top in the 24th minute as she corralled a rebound off a shot from Brittney Sheffield and found the back of the net to give Oregon State a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers controlled play for most of the match, holding a 17-6 edge in shots, however, Boyd made a pair of key stops in the final five minutes to give Oregon State the win.
On the night, Boyd made four stops in goal as she recorded her first shutout of the season while Oregon State managed its second consecutive shutout victory.
Madison Goverde kept the Redhawks in the game as the Seattle goalie made nine stops on the night; however, took the loss with one goal allowed.
Senior Red Nixon had five shots, including three on goal, to lead Oregon State while Kara Kuttler recorded three shots for Seattle.
With the win, Oregon State improved to 3-2-0 all-time against Seattle as the contest marked the first meeting between the two schools since Oct. 2, 1993, when the Beavers captured a 3-0 win in Seattle.
Oregon State will look for its fifth straight victory when the Beavers conclude action at the Oregon Nike Tournament when they face Loyola Marymount at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.
