Zerbini Pulls No. 42 in ITA Preseason Singles Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. - California men's tennis junior Pedro Zerbini received the No. 42 ranking in the Sept. 4 Campbell's/ITA Division I Men's Tennis preseason singles rankings. The third-year Golden Bear posted a 24-9 record as a sophomore and finished the season ranked No. 68. Zerbini's previous highest ranking was No. 63 on April 21, 2009.
Zerbini helped his team to an 11-11 record in the 2009 dual season and recorded a 26-13 mark in doubles play with partner Geoff Chizever. The Bears advanced to the NCAA tournament for a school record 10th-straight season while Chizever and Zerbini completed their run in the doubles championship in the round of 16. Zerbini earned a spot on the Pac-10 All-Conference first team and was selected as the conference Player of the Week twice in 2009. At the conclusion of the season, he was chosen as the ITA West Region's Player to Watch heading into the fall season.
The Bears open up individual tournaments at the 2009 Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic in St. Helena, Calif., Sept. 18-20. Joining Cal in the annual round-robin tourney will be Harvard, Illinois and Michigan. Please check CalBears.com for details and scores.
