OREM, Utah -- Junior outside hitter Kimmee Roleder had the double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs Saturday as the No. 15 USC Women of Troy swept the Utah Valley Wolverines, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-15), in final day action at the Wolverine Invitational. Roleder hit .562 in the match (11-2-16) for the Trojans, who won their ninth consecutive match.
USC (9-1) hit .329 for the match, including a .517 clip in the second set.
The Women of Troy used eight service aces on the afternoon, including three from Geena Urango and Alex Jupiter. Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Williams (Houston, Texas/Stratford HS) had nine kills and hit .667 (9-1-12) for the Trojans while Jupiter added nine kills and tied a career high with 15 digs. Junior middle blocker Zoe Garrett had seven kills and hit .462 (7-1-13) while setter Kendall Bateman chipped in 33 assists.
'Kendall really took over the match and Alex did a great job of passing for us,' said USC head coach Mick Haley. 'I thought we had to deal with a rowdy crowd and aggressive team (in Utah Valley). We look forward to a good week of intense training and playing our final non-conference matches.'
Kayli Broadbent led the Wolverines (4-4) with six kills, but hit .062 in the match.
USC returns home to host Portland and Fresno State next weekend at the Galen Center. The Women of Troy hosts Portland on Friday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m. On Saturday (Sept. 19), Fresno State and Portland will play at 11 a.m. before USC takes on Fresno State at 7 p.m. Both USC matches will be broadcast live through a video webcast on usctrojans.com.
