Seventh-ranked California (3-1-0) plays a pair of West Coast Conference opponents this week, taking on San Francisco (2-1-0) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Dons' Negoesco Stadium and hosting Santa Clara (2-2-0) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley.

The Golden Bears are ranked No. 7 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and No. 8 in the current Soccer America magazine poll.

Scouting the No. 7/8 (NSCAA/Soccer America) Golden Bears
Cal is on a two-game winning streak after winning both of its games in the 13th annual Cal Legacy Classic. After collecting a total of three goals and three assists against George Washington (4-0 win) and Cal Poly (3-1 win), junior forward Andrew Wiedeman leads the Bears in points (11), goals (4) and game-winning goals (2). He also ranks second on the team with three assists.

Junior midfielder Hector Jimenez, who tallied one goal and two assists through two games against GW and Cal Poly, paces the Bears with five assists and ranks second on the team with seven points. Cal sophomore goalkeeper David Bingham has a 0.76 goals-against average after starting every match this season.

Wiedeman Watch
Andrew Wiedeman, a 2008 All-American, collected five honors for his strong play in the Cal Legacy Classic, including Pac-10 Player of the Week, Cal's Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week and spots on national teams of the week selected by Soccer America, College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer. Also this season, the San Ramon, Calif., product is on the Watch List for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. He earned spots on Soccer America's and College Soccer News' 2009 preseason All-America teams.

Last Time Against USF, SCU
In 2008, Cal tied Santa Clara, 1-1, on Sept. 12 at Buck Shaw Stadium and defeated San Francisco, 2-0, on Sept. 26 at Edwards Stadium. The Bears also played the Dons in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, beating USF, 3-0, in the first round on Nov. 21 in Berkeley.

Scouting the Opposition
Junior forward Bryan Burke (1 goals, 4 assists) and senior midfielder Jonathan Levi (2, 2) are tied for the San Francisco lead in points (6 each). Senior forward Conor Chinn, the 2008 WCC Player of the Year, has two goals and one assist. Senior goalie Franco Carotenuto has a 1.50 GAA in two starts.

Erik Visser is in his ninth year as San Francisco's head coach.

Santa Clara hosts Stanford at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Bay Area Classic before playing at Cal on Sunday. Eric Masch and MyKell Bates are tied for the Broncos' lead with four points each (2 goals each). Brandon Zimmerman leads Santa Clara in assists (3). Larry Jackson has a 1.20 GAA after playing every minute for the Broncos so far this season.

Cameron Rast is in his eighth year as head coach at Santa Clara.

Next Week
Cal plays in its third consecutive 'classic' when it plays New Mexico and Air Force as part of the Stanford Nike Classic. The Bears play New Mexico at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Cardinal's Laird Q. Cagan Stadium and then host Air Force at 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Edwards Stadium.
