TUCSON - Though the collegiate cross country season technically began two weeks ago for the Wildcats, Friday will mark the day when both the UA men's and women's squads look to make their rse to the top of the conference rankings as they host their lone home meet at the 2009 Dave Murray Invitational at Dell Urich Golf Course.

Two weeks ago, Arizona competed at the George Kyte Invitational in hosted by Northern Arizona.  Both squads took second in the event, but they both also ran without their top-five runners.  In order to save the premier athletes for the races that matter in the grand scheme of national championship qualifying, UA head coach James Li rested his star runners. But Friday, the restraints will be lifted.

The 2009 season marks the tale of two teams for the UA squads. The women's team welcomes an astounding 11 freshman athletes joining in conjunction with only four returning members. UA junior Maggie Callahan is the most senior member of the team. With only sophomores Hannah Moen and Hanna Henson returning as point-scoring individuals from last year's squad, the freshmen will immediately be expected to make a contribution to the team.

On the other hand, the men welcome only three new faces and return all five point scorers from a squad that finished seventh at last year's Pac-10 Championships in Eugene – including impressive junior Victor Zazueta - and will look to improve upon that mark this year.

The Dave Murray meet will feature all of these individuals as the team looks to kick to season of with a bang hosting some premiere Pac-10 talent in UCLA and Arizona State. Several qualified community colleges will also be in attendance in Pima and Mesa Community Colleges.

The UA men and women finished second on both sides last season, falling to Arizona State. Both squads will look to better their conference rivals Friday and win the event for the first time in several season.

The men's 7000-meter run will kick of at Dell Urich Golf course at 5 p.m. with the women to follow at apprximately 5:45.
