Men's Golf Opens Season At Olympia Fields

The USC men's golf team, an NCAA Championships quarterfinalist in 2008 and a top 3 finisher in 2007, begins the 2009 fall season at the 2009 Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, Friday through Sunday (Sept. 18-20) at the Olympia Fields (Ill.) C.C.

The Trojans, ranked No. 10 in the Golf World preseason poll and led by two-time All-American Matt Giles, are among a field that includes seven top 10 teams.

The field includes Arizona State, Augusta State, Florida, Florida State,Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Northwestern, San Diego State, USC, Stanford, Texas and Wake Forest.

The Trojans feature a young lineup in 2009-2010 after the departure of three All-Americans. Tom Glissmeyer graduated in 2009 while Jamie Lovemark and Tim Sluiter turned professional.

Fourth-year head coach Chris Zambri's lineup for the season-opening event will feature Giles, sophomore Steve Lim and freshmen T.J. Vogel, Sam Smith and Martin Trainer.

USC will tee off at 8:40 a.m. (CST) with Indiana and San Diego State.
