Women's Volleyball Blog: Katherin Sebastian
Sept. 17, 2009
This season different members of the 2009 Cardinal Women's Volleyball team will send in their thoughts on the season and how the team is progressing. Check back soon for a new update!
I will be the first one to say that Stanford University is the best college in the whole entire universe, but after spending six whole days in paradise I could argue that the University of Hawaii is a close second.
We arrived on Tuesday the 8th just in time to hit Waikiki Beach as the sun sunk below the perfectly turquoise Pacific Ocean. We were thus given the perfect opportunity to celebrate Jessica Walker's 20th Birthday - splashing around in 80-degree water and soaking up the sun with your best friends - what a lucky girl.
The next day we had a grueling two-hour practice, yet continued to improve despite the distractions of the Hawaiian Islands. Luckily, our efforts paid off and we were then taken to the Outrigger Canoe Club courtesy of the Shoji Family. We spent the rest of the afternoon and night soaking up the sun and eating the best meal of our lives. Then it was off to bed to prepare for the next night's match.
Our first opponent was the University of Texas San Antonio, who we beat in three games and accomplished our statistical goals. The next night, we took on Weber State, and although did not play to our full potential, we still came out on top. We then turned our full attention to the University of Hawaii - our most formidable challenger. It was three extremely close and competitive games, but unfortunately the Rainbow Wahine got the best of us behind the support of their 7,800-person crowd.
Then it was back to Palo Alto to start another week of practice in preparation for this weekend's matches when we take on the University of San Francisco and St. Mary's College as part of the Pac-10/WCC Challenge.
Looking forward to play in front of our home crowd for the first time this season and hope to see you all there!
