CORVALLIS - The Oregon State Women's Golf team is set to open the season on the Palouse with the second annual Washington State University Inland Cup Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 21-23.
The tournament will be played at Washington State's new championship-level Palouse Ridge Golf Club on the WSU campus in Pullman, Wash. 'The season opener is always an important tournament. It sets the tone,' head coach Risë Lakowske said. 'We're ready. The team has gone through six rounds of qualifying and it was close. They're ready to go.'
The 14-team tournament field includes Boise State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, Oregon State, Portland State, Sacramento State, Seattle University, Washington State and Weber State.
'We're looking forward to playing in Pullman. This is the first time we've been on this course. I've heard a lot of good things and we're excited to see it.'
Six Oregon State golfers will be participating this week. Five golfers will count toward the team score with one playing individually. Those playing for the team score are seniors Lauren Archer and Brittany Stewart, junior Cara Freeman, and sophomores Whitney French and Elyse Okada. Freshman Christy Fogerty will play as an individual.
