Stanford Finishes Fourth at Fighting Illini Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - In a field full of NCAA Championship contenders Stanford's top-ranked men's golf team finished fourth at the Fighting Illini Invitational held at Olympia Fields Country Club outside of Chicago.
The Cardinal finished with a 54-hole team score of 876 on rounds of 295, 288 and 293 to finish six strokes behind first place Arizona State (870). Second-ranked Oklahoma State finished second with score of 872, followed by third place Texas at 875.
Trent Whitekiller of Oklahoma State and Harris English of Georgia tied for medalist honors with a score of 211.
Stanford was paced by junior Steve Ziegler, who carded his second consecutive 71 to finish tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of 214 (72-71-71).
Sophomore David Chung tied for 14th with a score of 218. Chung entered the day in contention for the individual title after firing two rounds of 71, but a final round 76 dashed his title hopes.
Sihwan Kim tied for 28th, finishing with a 12-over 222 after closing with a final round 75 today.
Freshman Andrew Yun played his best round of the tournament today, closing with a 72 after opening with rounds of 77 and 74.
Junior Graham Brockington shot a 75 today to finish with a 54-hole score of 231, good for 56th place.
Stanford will be back in action on Oct. 11-13 when the Cardinal participate in The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
