UW Receiving Some Pre-Season Love

Sept. 22, 2009

College basketball magazines and websites previewing the upcoming season are starting to circulate, and in them the Washington Husky team and its players are receiving some well-deserved love.

In the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook the Huskies are ranked 23rd overall and predicted to finish second in the Pac-10 Conference behind only Cal, who is ranked seventh overall. On the individual honors front, Isaiah Thomas is selected to the publications All-Conference Team, while Abdul Gaddy is selected as its Newcomer of the Year.

SportingNews.com is starting to release its position rankings and have selected Gaddy as the No. 7 ranked point guard in the nation, while Thomas is the No. 8 shooting guard. They have not released their small forward, power forward or center rankings yet.

Lindy's magazine has hit the stands too. Washington is picked second in the Pac-10 behind Cal in their rankings. Thomas made the first team all-conference, while Quincy Pondexter and Gaddy made the second team. Gaddy also earned Newcomer of the Year, Pondexter is their pick as Top Rebounder, Thomas is Most Entertaining and Venoy Overton is the league's Top Defender.

Feel free to send Washington men's basketball SID Brian Tom an email (briantom@u.washington.edu) if you see any other rankings of Washington and its players.
