M Tennis to Compete in Malibu This Weekend

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona men’s tennis team will compete in the Pepperdine Wave Invitational in Malibu, Calif. this weekend.

 

The Cats will send a total of eight players to take on the likes of Fresno State, Minnesota and host Pepperdine.

 

Seniors Andres Arango and Ravid Hazi, juniors Andres Carrasco and Jay Goldman, sophomore Jason Zafiros, and freshmen Frank Chen and Alex Johnson will compete for Arizona at the Invitational which starts on Friday, Sept. 25th and runs through the weekend.

 

'This is a very high-level tournament featuring four really talented teams,' said head coach Tad Berkowitz. 'Our guys expect to face some skilled players and are looking forward to the weekend.”

 

There will be four players competing in Malibu that appear in the ITA Preseason Singles rankings. Arizona’s Arango, who is ranked No. 122, is joined by Pepperdine’s No. 21 Bassam Beidas and No. 71 Alex Llompart, and Minnesota’s No.51 Tobias Wernet.

 

The Wildcats will face Fresno State Friday morning at 10 a.m., Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and Minnesota Sunday morning at 10 a.m.   All matches will be scored individually and played at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Pavillion on the campus of Pepperdine.
