Thompson Finishes Fifth at Inland Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University freshman Ali Thompson led the Cougar women's golf team at the second annual Inland Cup Wednesday, recording a top-five finish in her collegiate debut at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
WSU's season-opening tournament also marked the first event for first-year head coach Kelli Kamimura.
Thompson carded a 1-under 71 in the second round, and posted first- and third-round scores of 77 (+5) en route to a three-round total of 225 (+9) at the par-72, 6,126-yard course. She posted 38 pars during the 54-hole event, second-most in the 80-player field.
Fellow freshman Emma Betland also posted a top-25 finish in her first-career collegiate event, finishing with a three-round score of 237 (+21).
Sophomore Kristen Allard and redshirt junior Allison Travis each finished tied for 29th, two strokes back of the top 25, with 54-hole scores of 240 (+24). Travis was one of only five individuals in the field to record an eagle, carding a three on the 475-yard, par-five 17th hole in the second round.
Rounding out the Cougar contingent was freshman Ellen Park, who posted a three-round score of 245.
The Cougars finished in eighth place with a team total of 940, seven strokes back of the top five.

The Cougars continue their season next week at the Northwest Collegiate Classic in Corvallis, Ore.
