Women's Golf Opens Season At Mason Rudolph

Sept. 24, 2009

The USC women's golf team, ranked No. 2 in Golfweek's 2009-2010 preseason poll, gets the new season underway at the 2009 Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn., Friday through Sunday (Sept. 25-27).

USC, under 14th-year coach Andre Gaston, returns three All-Americans in senior Belen Mozo, junior Lizette Salas and sophomore Jennifer Song. All are ranked among Golfweek's preseason top 10 individual players with Song at No. 1, Salas at No. 5 and Mozo at No. 9 (though Mozo is still recovering from summer shoulder surgery and will not play this week).

Including the 2003 and 2008 NCAA titles, USC has finished in the NCAA Championships' top 4 in five of the past seven years. In fact, the Trojans, who finished third in 2009, have reached the NCAA Championships 12 times in a row under Gaston and have been in the top 7 nine times.

They start the 2009-10 season against a formidable field that includes No. 1 Arizona State, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 Auburn, No. 9 Virginia, No. 10 Duke, No. 11 LSU, No. 14 Georgia, No. 17 Arizona, No. 21 host Vanderbilt, No. 22 Stanford, No. 26 Texas, No. 29 Florida, No. 31 Tulane and No. 47 South Carolina.

In addition to Song and Salas, Gaston will fill out the five-player lineup with senior Caroline Kim, sophomore Inah Park and freshman Cyna Rodriguez.

Action will begin at 8 a.m. CST on Friday and Saturday and at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
