Sept. 25, 2009
PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior midfielder Carly Dobratz scored two goals and Washington State defeated Weber State 4-0 at Lower Soccer Field, Friday in nonconference women's soccer.
The victory was the fourth-straight for Washington State (7-2-0) while Weber State (4-4-0) lost for the fourth-consecutive match in front of a crowd of 747.
'Anytime you play in front of a big crowd at home and you can give them something to cheer about, it's a great day,' WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. 'We are very excited for the win. Now we have to start getting ready to play a high-quality opponent in Portland.'
Junior defender Ashley Johnson gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Sophomore Jacquelyn Roth sent a cross from the left into the box where freshman forward Brandi Vega fired the ball toward the goal. Johnson was on the doorstep and poked the ball past a Wildcats' defender and goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie.
In the 26th minute, Roth sent a cross into the box and Dobratz beat Ritchie high from six yards out for a 3-0 halftime advantage. In the 69th minute, Dobratz's cross from the right side deflected off a Weber State defender and trickled across the goalline to account for the final goal of the day.
