Washington's Miyashiro Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week

 

EACH PAC-10 TEAM RECEIVED VOTES IN THIS WEEK’S AVCA TOP 25

The WASHINGTON HUSKIES were the only Pac-10 team to come out of the opening weekend of league play with a 2-0 mark and continue to roll with a 12-0 record overall, with the last nine victories coming away from home. Washington finally returns home this weekend for league matches against the Arizona schools... Each Pac-10 team received votes in this week’s AVCA Top 25. For the fourth straight week seven Pac-10 teams are ranked among the AVCA Top 25 - No. 3 WASHINGTON, No. 7 OREGON, No. 9 CALIFORNIA, No. 11 STANFORD, No. 13 USC, No. 16 UCLA and No. 18 ARIZONA. Also receiving votes were ARIZONA STATE (tNo. 34) WASHINGTON STATE (tNo. 34) and OREGON STATE (No. 41).

PAC-10 NOTES 

 

Around the League... Average attendance for the opening weekend of nine Pac-10 matches was 1,969 fans. Cal and Stanford played before a crowd of 4,189 fans in Haas Pavilion, while Oregon hosted Washington in front of 3,564 fans in Mac Court... USC SO OH Alex Jupiter posted a pair of career-highs with 31 kills, hitting .433 in the process, and 20 digs in the four set win at Arizona State. The 31 kills are the most in a match this season by a Pac-10 player... STANFORD JR OH Cassidy Lichtman earned her third triple-double of the seaosn against California with 14 kills, 16 assists and 11 digs. No other player in the Pac-10 has recorded a triple-double this season... WASHINGTON STATE FR L Ocean Bush has recorded 117 digs over the last six matches, averaging 5.32 digs per set. She’s second in the Pac-10, averaging 4.49 dps... OREGON SR OH Sonja Newcombe needs nine digs to reach 1,000 for her career. Already with 1,262 kills, she’ll become the third Duck in school history to reach 1,000 kills/1,000 digs. Newcombe and SR MB Neticia Enesi have eached posted double-digit kills in each of the last seven matches... CALIFORNIA SR OH Hana Cutura has posted double-digit kills in each of the 11 matches played this season. She’s tallied double-digit numbers in 40 of her last 44 matches... ARIZONA STATE SR OH Paige Mittelstaedt has hit .350 or better in each of the last seven matches and currently ranks third in the league in hitting percentage (.417)... How tough is the Pac-10? Entering Pac-10 play last weekend, Washington was hitting a league-best .339, which was second in the nation. In two road wins at the Oregon schools, the Huskies hit .253 at Oregon and .271 at Oregon State. Only once in the first 10 matches of the season did the Huskies hit below .271.

 

From Four to One... Entering Pac-10 play, four teams were undefeated. However, WASHINGTON is the only team remaining undefeated at 12-0. Each of the 12 matches have been won in three sets. Washington is one of three teams nationally that are undefeated, joining Penn State and Texas. 

 

Coaching Milestone... ARIZONA STATE coach Jason Watson needs two wins to reach 100 for his career, while CALIFORNIA coach Rich Feller needs two wins to reach 500 for his career. 

 

Out of this League... The Pac-10 put on an impressive display during the non-conference portion of the schedule, racking up a record of 96-15 (.865) record against non-league competition, including a mark of 12-6 (.667) against teams ranked in the Top 25. Of those 96 non-league wins, 67 were accomplished in three sets.
