Nakazawa Leads UCLA To 3-1 Win Over Oregon State
Oct. 2, 2009
UCLA senior Kyle Nakazawa continued his hot streak, scoring two goals, including the tying goal, and assisting on the go-ahead goal to lead UCLA to a 3-1 win over Oregon State in Corvallis on Friday night.
The Bruins fell behind in the game after a 19th minute goal by Brian Ramsey, but Nakazawa evened the score at 37:13 after receiving a short pass from Eder Arreola. Michael Roman was also credited with an assist.
Nakazawa helped create the go-ahead goal at 61:57, sending an indirect free kick into the box, where it found freshman Ryan Hollingshead, who headed it into the back of the net for his third goal of the year. Another Nakazawa free kick, this time a direct one, put UCLA ahead 3-1. At 86:24, he bent a free kick in for his team-leading sixth goal of the year to put the game away.
Nakazawa has six goals and three assists in his last five games and extended his scoring streak to five games. He has scored or assisted on eight of UCLA's last nine goals.
Bruin goalkeeper Brian Rowe picked up the win, his fourth since taking over for Brian Perk, who has been in Egypt for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the U.S. was eliminated today. Rowe had two saves in the contest.
UCLA, which has won five in a row, improves its record to 6-1-0, 1-0-0 in the Pac-10. The Bruins will next travel to Washington to face the Huskies on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 pm.
