Women's Soccer Battles to Tie against San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Oregon State women's soccer team battled to a 1-1, double-overtime tie against San Diego State in the opener of the Aztec Classic on Friday night. With the draw, Oregon State moves to 7-2-1 on the season while San Diego State improves to 6-3-3.
Neither team managed to get on the scoreboard in the first half as San Diego State connected on the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute. Niki Fernandes put the Aztecs in front as she beat the defense and found the upper left-hand corner of the net to give San Diego State a 1-0 lead.
Oregon State would manage to battle back; however, and netted the equalizer in the 77th minute. On a cross from Red Nixon, Brittney Sheffield connected on her second goal of the season when she headed the ball into the upper left-hand corner of the net to tie the score.
The score would remain the same over the final minutes of regulation and through the two, 10-minute overtime periods as the game finished in a draw, the first of the season for the Beavers.
Oregon State held a 16-11 edge in shots, including a 4-3 edge in the overtime periods, with Jayne Eadie recording four shots on the night to lead the Beavers.
Colleen Boyd made four stops in goal for Oregon State while Aubree Southwick recorded four saves for the Aztecs.
Oregon State will conclude action at the tournament on Sunday, Oct. 4, when the Beavers face UNLV at 11:30 a.m.
