Corvallis, Ore. -
Oregon State junior wide receiver James Rodgers has been named this week’s Pac-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday. He has also been selected honorable mention punt returner of the week by College Football Performance Awards.
Rodgers, from Richmond, Texas, accounted for a game-high 209 all-purpose yards in leading the Beavers to a 28-17 victory at Arizona State last Saturday. He made 10 catches for 114 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Sean Canfield in the second quarter. Rodgers also added 60 yards in punt returns, 30 yards in kickoff returns and five yards rushing.
For James Rodgers, it was his second conference honor of his career. He was named the co-Special Teams Player of the Week Nov. 17, 2008 after accounting for 117 yards in kickoff returns in a win over California. His brother, sophomore Jacquizz Rodgers, has earned the Pac-10’s Offensive Player of the Week award three times.
James is the Pac-10 leader and ranks ninth in the nation for all-purpose yards per game at 181.5 yards, and also is the conference leader for receiving yards per game at 88.
Also honored by the Pac-10 this week are Taylor Mays and Damian Williams of USC.
The Beavers return to action this Saturday against Pac-10 leading Stanford at Reser Stadium, Kickoff is 4:11 p.m. and the game is being televised by FSN.
