Oct. 6, 2009
Junior outside hitter Alix Klineman has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4. She earned the award after propelling the Cardinal to victories over two nationally-ranked Pac-10 foes, recording double-doubles in both matches.
Klineman started things off for Stanford by drilling 23 kills in a 3-1 win over No. 16 UCLA, an outing in which she also collected 10 digs and a season-high five solo blocks. The two-time AVCA All-American smashed a season-high 24 kills on .357 hitting with 11 digs and a block in Stanford's sweep of No. 13 USC the following day.
For the week, Klineman averaged 6.71 kills, 3.00 digs and 7.57 points per set, while hitting an efficient .310. Her honor marks the 12th time an athlete from Stanford has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, and the first since October 2007.
Klineman was named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week Monday. It was the third honor of her career. Stanford leads the conference with 68 all-time players of the week.
Stanford, currently third in the conference, hosts No. 25 Washington State and No. 3 Washington this weekend in Pac-10 play. The Huskies and the Cougars are in first and second place in the conference, respectively.
