O'Hara Selected Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 6, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - Kelley O'Hara was selected as the Pacific-10 Conference women's soccer Player of the Week for her performance against Santa Clara on Thursday.
had two goals and an assist - figures matched by teammate Christen Press - to help the Cardinal to a 6-2 victory at No. 11 Santa Clara on Thursday.
O'Hara has been a big reason for the Cardinal's 11-0-0 start, matching the best in school history. O'Hara, a senior captain, ranks second in the nation in goals (12) and points (30).
Press leads the nation in assists (10) and is tied with O'Hara in points.
O'Hara's first goal tied the score against Santa Clara on a half-volley from a ball that came off the head of a defender. Her next was a first-touch shot off Lindsay Taylor's cross, and her assist was just as spectacular, as O'Hara made a half-field run before placing a perfect pass across the goal-mouth to Press.
For her success on and off the field, O'Hara also has been named a finalist for the women's soccer Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
This week's award marks the third career Player of the Week selection for O'Hara and the 25th for a Stanford player, tying UCLA with the most selections all-time. O'Hara is the third Stanford player this season to earn the weekly Pac-10 honor, following Press (Aug. 25) and Mariah Nogueira (Sept. 15).
The honor is one of several earned by O'Hara and Press this week.
Both were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's national Team of the Week and were among the Collegesoccer360.com's Performers of the Week.
Press also was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
