Softball Announces Fall Clinic Series Dates
Oct. 7, 2009
SEATTLE - Washington softball head coach Heather Tarr announced dates and times for the 2009 Fall Clinic Series that will take place at the Dempsey Indoor Facility and feature instruction from members of the defending national champions along with the 2009 NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year.
A series of camps will take place in November, starting with pitching and hitting clinics on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Wednesday, Nov. 11 for grades 2-8. One hitting and one pitching clinic will take place from 7-8 p.m. followed by one more of each from 8-9 p.m.
The pitching clinic will provide specific pitching instruction for all levels. Each player will walk away from the clinic with a concrete understanding of her fundamentals and what she needs to do in her own time to become a great pitcher. All pitchers must bring their own catcher at no additional charge.
The hitting clinic will focus on important fundamentals of the swing. Coaches will introduce multiple drills to learn and perfect the swing. No matter players' age or ability, this clinic will address their needs.
The following week, pitching and hitting clinics will take place for ages 8-18 on Tuesday, Nov. 17 and Thursday, Nov. 18. The pitching and hitting clinics will again take place from 7-8 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. in the Dempsey, while an additional infield skills clinic will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 8-9 p.m. This clinic will cover the specifics of glove work, footwork and fundamentals necessary to play the middle infield and the corners at all levels of fastpitch softball. Clinic attendees will master the fundamentals of the double play, of slap and bunt defense and situational defensive play.
Each player must bring their own softball equipment to the clinics, such as a batting helmet, batting gloves, bat, glove, sweats, kneepads, athletic clothing and visor or hat in addition to a water bottle and money for snacks and souvenirs. Catchers will need to bring their own gear.
Cleats and spikes are not allowed inside the Dempsey Indoor facility. A turf or court shoe must be worn.
