Women's Soccer Hosts Top-Ranked Stanford on Friday

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team opens Pac-10 Conference play this weekend as the Beavers host No. 1 and undefeated Stanford on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting marks the third time in program history Oregon State has faced the nation's top-ranked team.
'It's going to be a tremendous challenge, but it's an opportunity we are extremely excited about,' head coach Linus Rhode said. 'It's always good to be playing a team like Stanford at home and we know it will be a difficult test. Our job is going to be to make it tough for them to play their style of game. It's a big weekend for our program and a great opportunity for fans to see some great soccer.'
Oregon State, ranked No. 21 in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, enters the weekend with a record of 8-2-1 on the season after going 1-0-1 at the Aztec Classic. The Beavers tied San Diego State, 1-1, before picking up a shutout victory over UNLV, 3-0.
Chelsea Buckland and Ashley Seal lead a balanced Oregon State attack with four goals and nine points apiece as 12 players have recorded a point for the Beavers this season. Courtney Wetzel leads the team with three assists.
Stanford enters the weekend with an unblemished mark of 11-0-0 on the year. The Cardinal lead the conference with 3.64 goals per game while holding opponents to just 0.73 goals per contest.
Christen Press and Kelley O'Hara lead the Cardinal and the conference with 30 points as Kira Maker ranks eighth in the league with a goals against average of 0.79.
Oregon State is 0-2 all-time against top-ranked opponents as Stanford leads the all-time series, 15-1-0.
Admission is free for fans of all ages. Fans attending the match are encouraged to 'Help Fight Hunger' by bringing a canned food item to donate to community outreach.
Following the match with the Cardinal, Oregon State will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when the Beavers host No. 21 California at 12:00 p.m.
