This season different members of the 2009 Cardinal Women's Volleyball team will send in their thoughts on the season and how the team is progressing. Check back soon for a new update!
I do not think we could have asked for a more wonderful weekend down in sunny SoCal! With two solid wins over UCLA and USC, the Stanford volleyball team has jumped to third in the Pac-10.
Our match against the Bruins on Friday night provided us a great opportunity to show the Pac-10 what we are made of. The notorious Bruin student fans (who every year dress-up as lumberjacks determined to cut down the Stanford tree) provided hearty entertainment early on in the match. Unfortunately for them, they were forced to take a seat and quiet down as the Cardinal slowly took charge. To celebrate the big win, we chowed down on cookies from Westwood's famous Diddi Riese's after the match (thanks to a good friend of Gabi).
The win on Friday night propelled our team on to takedown a formidable Trojan squad come Saturday night. Perhaps the most epic story from the night was the front row stint in the second game by our defensive specialist, Hannah Benjamin. After running out of substitutions, Hannah had no choice but to rotate into the front row and pull out some of her blocking and hitting skills. A job well done! We took that never-ending second game (final score was 35-33!) as well as the match from the USC Trojans.
With fierce competition coming into town this weekend, we have our work cut out for us yet again! See you on Friday night!
