Meet The Cardinal: Gabi Ailes

Oct. 8, 2009

Each week GoStanford.com will feature a Q&A with a different member of the 2009 Stanford Women's Volleyball team. This week get to know junior Gabi Ailes.

My goals for this season are…
My most important goal for this season is to be “Gabi” consistently, as the coaches state it best. <A HREF=Gabi Ailes' width='150' height='250' />

I would love to trade places for a day with…
One of the dollies. The dresses are cute and they get to twirl around and dance with the band (I LOVE THE BAND!)!

My favorite team to watch as a kid was…
Obviously, the Huskers. Back-to-Back ’94-’95. Those were the good days

The talent I’d most like to have is…
I would say it is more like a super power that I would love to have…the power to HEAL. It is always frustrating to have aches and pains as an athlete, so I would love to heal my team so that we can play at our optimal level 100% of the time.

The best thing about Stanford is…
Besides having the best of both worlds: academics and athletics, I would have to say that they location is incredible. A 30 minute drive to San Francisco to experience China Town, a 45 minute drive to take a dip in the Pacific, and a three hour drive to ski in Tahoe! You can’t ask for anything better.

My funniest teammate is…
I would have to say that Janet is the funniest person on the team without trying and Charlotte does the best impression of BBC News that cracks me up every time I hear it.

The sport I am the worst at is…
I would have to say golf. I am so inconsistent at the driving range, I can’t even imagine what I would be like on the course!

Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is…
I am almost fluent in American Sign Language ☺

My favorite volleyball memory is…
Beating Texas twice last year in my hometown, but most importantly in the semifinal match of the NCAA Championship.

My biggest pet peeve is…
People who chew with their mouths open or people who are always late.

If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to…
Alaska because it is one of the few states I haven’t been to. I was going to the say the moon, but then realized that it is not part of the “world”.

The best advice I’ve received was…
“Be yourself.” -From several people.
