Women's Tennis Falls At Day Two of ITA All-American Championships
Oct. 9, 2009
It was a tough outing for the Devils in the second day of play at the ITA All-American Championships, as prevailing champ, junior Kelcy McKenna saw her quest for a repeat come to an end. McKenna, the seven seed, battled it out against No. 16 Venise Chan, but was ultimately overcome by the Husky standout 7-5, 6-1.
McKenna and partner Micaela Hein squared off against California's Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova in Doubles Consolation play. The 12th ranked ASU duo, who finished the 08-09 season with a 23-11 record, came up short against the second ranked Andersson and Juricova, falling 8-5.
The Devils now return to Tempe and will be back in action later this month at the ITA Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif.
