Women's Golf Set to Play at Price's 'Give `Em Five' Intercollegiate
Oct. 11, 2009
The Oregon State women's golf team is set to play for the fourth straight week at the Price's 'Give `Em Five' Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 12-14.
The tournament will be played at the 6,193 yard, par-72 New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. It is a 54-hole tournament consisting of three 18-hole rounds with one being played each day. Tee times will be at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. on Wednesday with all three days being shotgun starts.
'Our ball striking has been really good,' head coach Risë Lakowske said. 'But we really need to clean up our putting. Last week, at Sahalee Country Club, the course was set up in a difficult configurations which held the scoring down. But I expect to see lower scores this week.'
The 18-team tournament field includes Arizona, Baylor, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Nevada, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Portland State, San Diego State and UC Irvine.
'There are a lot of teams in this field that we need to beat,' Lakowske said. 'This will be one of the best fields we'll see this fall and is an event we could win. The course will be similar to what we see every day at Trysting Tree and it will be a scorable course.'
Five Oregon State golfers will compete as a team with the top four scores of each round counting toward the overall team score. Those making the trip to Las Cruces are seniors Lauren Archer and Brittany Stewart, junior Cara Freeman, sophomore Elyse Okada and freshman Christy Fogerty.
