Janet Okogbaa Earns Pac-10 Volleyball Player Of The Week
Oct. 12, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Stanford senior middle blocker Janet Okogbaa has been named the Pac-10 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 5-11, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Okogbaa led the Cardinal to a pair of wins over ranked teams, which included an upset of third-ranked and previously unbeaten Washington. For the weekend, Okogbaa totaled 30 kills (3.33 kps) and 14 blocks (1.55 bps) while hitting .371.
In Friday's 3-1 victory over Washington State, Okogbaa recorded nine kills and seven blocks. Against the Huskies, the senior turned in her best performance of her career. She tallied 21 kills in 36 attempts, both career highs, while hitting a match-best .528. In the process of defeating Washington, the Cardinal snapped the Huskies' streak of 46 straight set-wins, as Washington was the only team in the nation not to have lost a set going into Saturday's contest.
This is the first weekly honor for Okogbaa, and Stanford's Conference leading 69th Player of the Week all-time.
Stanford now has won four-straight matches and improves to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the Pac-10. The Cardinal will take on Oregon State and Oregon this week on the road.
