Stanford's Okogbaa Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 12, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that STANFORD senior middle blocker Janet Okogbaa has been named the Pac-10 Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 5-11.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Okogbaa led the Cardinal to a pair of wins over ranked teams, which included an upset of third-ranked and previously unbeaten WASHINGTON. In Friday’s 3-1 victory over WASHINGTON STATE, she recorded nine kills and seven blocks. Then against the Huskies, the senior turned in her best performance of her career. She tallied 21 kills in 36 attempts while hitting a match-best .528. In the process of defeating Washington, the Cardinal snapped the Huskies’ streak of 46 straight set-wins, as Washington was the only team in the nation not to have lost a set going into Saturday’s match.
For the weekend, Okogbaa totaled 30 kills (3.33 kps) and 14 blocks (1.55 bps) while hitting .371. Stanford now has won four-straight matches and improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the Pac-10.
This is the first weekly honor for Okogbaa, and Stanford’s Conference leading 69th all-time Player of the Week.
