Cheney Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 13, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior forward/midfielder Lauren Cheney has been named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 6-Oct. 12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Cheney, from Indianapolis, Ind., had a stellar weekend on the pitch, knocking in the second goal in a 2-0 win over Arizona. Then, in a double-overtime match against No. 20 Arizona State, Cheney struck again, adding a goal to help lead the Bruins past the Sun Devils, 3-2 continuing UCLA's streak of 21-consecutive Pac-10 wins. Cheney, who is also a member of the U.S. Senior National Team, now ranks third for the Bruins in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists.
Cheney's two goals on the weekend moved her into second place all-time on the UCLA career scoring charts with 143 points. She also moved into a tie for second all-time with Danesha Adams in goals scored with 60.
This is Cheney's fourth Player of the Week selection, making her only the third player in Pac-10 history to win the honor four times. It is also the Conference-leading 26th selection for a Bruin.
