Second Annual ASU Swimming Gala to Take Place on October 24th
Oct. 14, 2009
The Sun Devil Swimming Association has announced the date for the second annual ASU Swimming Dinner Gala. This year's event will take place on October 24th at the Sun Devils own Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex. With six-time Olympic gold medalist and current 96.9 FM radio morning co-host Amy Van Dyken as the mistress of ceremonies, it is an event not to miss.
Along with Van Dyken, guests will be entertained by several prominent speakers including David Marsh, CEO and Head Elite Coach of Mecklenburg Aquatic Club and former head coach of Auburn University, Bill Rose, CEO and head coach of Mission Viejo Nadadores, Dorsey Tierney-Walker, the new ASU head swimming coach; and Scott Ellison, producer of the upcoming documentary on ASU swimming and the new short film 'Topping Point: A Swimming Movie.' The ASU Diving team will also perform an exhibition during cocktail hour.
Cocktails and a silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Proceeds of the gala will directly support ASU Swimming, a program that enjoys a strong tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics, having numerous Academic All-Americans and Olympians.
Table sponsorships and VIP tables are available with great packages at prices ranging from $1,500-$5,000. Individual tickets are available for $125. For guests coming from out of town, there are discounted rooms available at the Courtyard by Marriott on 5th Street and Ash Street.
Funding for the ASU men's swimming program was discontinued by the Arizona State University intercollegiate sports budget in May 2008. By July, friends of the program mobilized and secured the program's reinstatement. The Sun Devil Swimming Association is an established 501c3 that will ensure the success of both men and women's swimming at ASU. Their mission is to establish an endowment of at least $7 million in cooperation with the university to ensure the permanent operation of the swimming program at the school.
