USC Cross Country To Run At CS Northridge Friday

Oct. 15, 2009

The USC women's cross country team will be running on Friday, Oct. 16 at the 6K CS Northridge Invitational in Northridge, Calif. at 4:45 p.m.

USC is coming off its first win of the season as they claimed the Vanguard Invitational last week in dominating fashion and look to keep on an upward swing. Expected to compete for USC are Christine Cortez, Zsofia Erdelyi, Chanel Fischetti, Abigail Gregg, Bridget Helgerson, Dina Kitayama, Theresa Kurth, Zara Lukens and Kathleen Moloney.

'Obviously our goal is to continue to build off the momentum from the Vanguard race and have one more positive experience before the Pac-10 Championships,' said USC cross country coach Tom Walsh. 'Two ranked team in the NCAA West Region (UCSB and CS Riverside) are going to be in this meet, so it will be a good chance for us to compete against them and get a good challenge before the Pac-10s. So as a team, I think our goal should be to finish in the top two, be competitive and improve off last week's race.'

'This is a good chance for Zsofia to get another race under her belt,' added Walsh. 'We've been racing her into shape because she's been a little behind schedule. Christine, Kathleen and Bridget have all been training well and it's a good chance for them to see if they can get into the top 10. It will also be the first race of the year for Chanel Fischetti and new athlete Dina Kitayama.'

Walsh stated that it will be the last chance for the athletes to make an impression before he has to set the top nine for the Pac-10 Championships.

Some of the Trojan runners will compete on Oct. 23 at the CS Fullerton Invitational, but most of them will train through the week in preparation for hosting the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 30 at Sky Links Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif.
