TUCSON—Arizona women’s soccer team lost to the University of Washington 2-0 Friday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.

In a game where the Cats were out-shot by the Huskies 14-5, Arizona (3-10-1, 0-3-0) started off the first half with a strong defensive effort, that kept Washington (9-2-2, 1-0-1) scoreless. Red shirt senior Devon Wharf had eight saves on the night, including three shots that came within seconds of one another, near the end of the game.

Senior Jasmine Namdar and sophomore Jessica Culver led the Cats with two shots each, and were able to keep Washington’s leading scorer Veronica Perez from getting any good looks at the net.

“Our key focus tonight was to limit Veronica Perez as much as possible.” Said co-head coach John Galas, “And we were able to do that. Unfortunately, it’s tough to create chances for us when we can’t get a strong rhythm on offense. We have to work on keeping the ball for longer periods, and we’ll work on that for Sunday. We definitely didn’t take enough shots tonight, and the few we do, we need to work harder to capitalize on.”

“This week definitely affected the whole group,” Galas said of Dan Tobias’ resigning, “It was a big shock to them, and they had a couple days to process it, and now it’s back to business as usual. The girls responded well, but it’s still going to be in the back of their minds. We just have to move forward and prepare for our next game.”

Up next, the Wildcats will host Washington State Sunday, October 18 at 1pm at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
