Oct. 20, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State women's soccer midfielder Melissa Peck has been named Pac-10 Conference Player of the Week, commissioner Larry Scott announced on Tuesday. The selection is the first of the senior's career.
In the annual Civil War match against Oregon, Peck assisted on two goals to help the Beavers earn a 2-0 win, marking Oregon State's first win over the Ducks since the 2005 season.
In the match against Oregon, the game remained scoreless until the 84th minute, when Peck created the game-winning goal with a cross to teammate Chelsea Buckland. Peck solidified the win for the Beavers, assisting on a second goal to forward Ashley Seal just 40 seconds later.
The two-assist game marked the second multi-assist game of her career and her first two assists of the season. Peck, a native of Boise, Idaho, ranks third on the squad with three goals this season.
The selection marks the seventh time an Oregon State player has been named player of the week as the last OSU player to pick up the award was Jodie Taylor during the 2007 season.
Oregon State, ranked No. 26 in the latest NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, returns to action on Friday, Oct. 23, when the Beavers travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to face USC at 3:00 p.m.
