UA Soccer to take on Arizona State

TUCSON--Arizona women's soccer will face conference rival Arizona State Friday October 23 at 7pm at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Last weekend, the Cats hosted Washington and Washington State. Against Washington, Arizona lost 2-0, and were out-shot 14-5. Red shirt senior Devon Wharf had 8 saves on the night. Against Washington State, the Cats lost 1-0. The Cats upped the defense against the Cougars, holding them to only six shots on the afternoon. Arizona had twelve shots for the day, which is the first time the Cats have out-shot an opponent since the October 2nd match against LMU.
This scoring drought marks the longest scoring drought in Arizona soccer history, with the last drought occurring in the 2006 season, where the Cats went scoreless for 443 minutes.
About the Sun Devils: Arizona State (7-4-1, 0-3-1) lost to the University of Washington 2-1 last Friday, and tied 1-1 Sunday against Washington State. Freshman Bianca Doller scored both ASU's goals for the weekend.
All about the freshmen and sophomores: The Wildcat freshman and sophomores outnumber the juniors and seniors 12-8, with Alex Smith, Brittany Berger, Amy Steiner, Kristin Strother, Renae Cuellar, Karli Hedlund, Itzel Rodriguez, Jessica Culver, Ariel Boulicault, Kristin Magyar, Kat Leibbrandt, and Susan Melendez participating in the seasons' opening matches.
Next up: Next week the Cats will head out to the Bay Area to take on California and Stanford on Friday, October 30 at 7pm and Sunday November 1 at noon
