Women Of Troy To Host Oregon State
Oct. 21, 2009
The USC women's swimming and diving team hosts Pac-10 rival Oregon State on Friday (Oct. 23) at noon at the USC McDonald's Swim Stadium.
The meet is part of a weekend of festivities for the swimming and diving programs. Events begin with a golf tournament fund raiser at the Oak Creek G.C. in Irvine at noon on Thursday (Oct. 22). That is followed by a dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the meet against the Beavers Friday, who are coached by former USC assistant coach Larry Liebowitz, the Trojans are hosting their Alum Recognition and Awards Banquet in the Galen Center's Founders Room, beginning at 6 p.m.
The annual Alumni Relays kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 24), at McDonald's Swim Stadium while the football team hosts Oregon State at 5 p.m. at the Coliseum. Call 213-740-8444 for more information on any of the weekend's activites.
Trojan swimmers kicked off the season two weeks ago with the USC Invitational, which featured action in long and short course meters as well as short course yards against Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield.
Sophomore Katinka Hosszu posted a combined four NCAA `B' cuts in her first action as a Trojan since winning 2009 World Championship gold and bronze medals over the summer. Other Trojans to earn NCAA `B' cuts in the early-season race were Yumi So (100y fly), Jessica Schmitt (100y breast) and Lyndsay DePaul (200scm IM). Men's freshman Clement Lefert also posted a `B' cut in the 100y fly as did junior Dillon Connolly in the 100y breast.
Oregon State opened its season last week by finishing second at the University of Pacific Invitational.
