CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team returns to action this weekend as the Beavers travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to face No. 9 USC on Friday, Oct. 23, at 3:00 p.m.
'It's always a tremendous challenge going on the road to face USC and UCLA, but it's an opportunity we are excited about,' head coach Linus Rhode said. 'We have done a good job this season of playing as a group for the full 90 minutes, but we know this will be a difficult test.'
Oregon State, which enters the week with a 9-4-1 mark and is receiving votes in the national polls, is coming off a 2-0 victory over Oregon in the annual Civil War. Chelsea Buckland and Ashley Seal recorded goals in the victory as Melissa Peck and Melinda Ingalls each tallied two assists. For her efforts in the victory, Peck earned Pac-10 Conference Player of the Week honors.
Buckland and Seal lead the Oregon State attack with five goals apiece as the Beavers rank sixth in the league at 1.64 goals per game. On the defensive side, Colleen Boyd and Ashley Wood have split time in goal as Oregon State ranks third in the league in goals against average, giving up only 0.84 goals per contest.
USC enters the contest with a mark of 11-4-0 on the year, 3-1-0 in conference play, after splitting a pair of contests last week. The Women of Troy fell to No. 1 Stanford, 4-0, before picking up a 3-2, double overtime victory over Cal to close out the weekend.
USC is led on offense by Alyssa Davila, who leads the team with eight goals and 20 points. On the defensive side, the Women of Troy are led by goalkeeper Kristen Olsen. The senior leads the Pac-10 with 71 saves and has posted a 1.04 goals against average this year.
The Women of Troy lead the all-time series 13-2-1 as Oregon State last won in the series in 1994, claiming a 2-1 victory in Los Angeles.
Following the match with USC, Oregon State will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 25, when the Beavers face No. 4 UCLA at 1:00 p.m.
