The Walk Welcomes Back All Stages of Alumni For Homecoming
Oct. 22, 2009
STANFORD, Calif.-- The “Walk” before each home football game will take on a special meaning this Saturday as the University welcomes back its alumni and the Cardinal host Arizona State at 7:25 p.m. at Stanford Stadium for Homecoming.
The Walk will be led by a sizeable contingent from the class of 1959, celebrating its 50th class reunion after playing for coach Jack Curtice, then in his first of five seasons at the helm in 1958.
Also leading the walk will be Brad Freeman, whose generous donation endowed the head coaching position at Stanford. Originally from Fargo, N.D., Freeman came to The Farm on a football scholarship and went onto Harvard Business School. In 2005, Freeman along with his investment firm partner Ronald Spogli, made one of the nation's largest donations of the year, combining to donate $50 million to the Stanford Institute for International Studies. His gift endowed the directorship of the institute and establish up to 10 interdisciplinary professorships in international studies throughout Stanford University
Also leading the walk will be Seattle Bowl member Amon Gordon (2001-03), two-sport standout Chad Hutchinson (1996-97), who pitched in the Majors and played in the NFL, Blockbuster Bowl winner Kevin Garnett (1992-94), Gator Bowl participant Pat Kelly (1985-86), and two-time all-conference pick Paul Wiggin (1954-56).
Tickets for the Homecoming game are available online at www.gostanford.com or by calling 1-800-STANFORD. The game will also be televised on Fox Sports and Comcast Bay Area.
