Seven Cardinal Players Reach ITA Northwest Regionals Round Of 32

BERKELEY, Calif.- Stanford performed well on the opening day of competition at the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, with seven of its nine participants advancing to the round of 32.

Junior Alex Clayton and sophomore Bradley Klahn, the tournament's top two seeds, respectively, breezed into the round of 32 after receiving first-round byes and following up with a victory.

Junior Greg Hirshman, senior Richard Wire and freshman Matt Kandath were the other seeded Cardinal players to advance.

Freshmen Walker Kehrer and Denis Lin both won two matches in convincing fashion, also qualifying for the round of 32.

Junior Ted Kelly and freshman Sam Ecker dropped their opening round matches and are now in the consolation draw.
