Stanford Frosh Race To Third-Place Finish At Head Of The American

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Stanford Freshman Men's Rowing team finished third in the CollegiateNovice 8+ at the Head of the American in Gold River, Calif. This was the firsttime that the rowers had a chance to race as Cardinal oarsmen.
The race took place over 5,000 meters on the American River where Stanfordclocked a 16:18 to trail two entries from California that finished the course in15:58 and 16:13, respectively.
'Today was a good opportunity for our guys,' commented freshman coach PeteGiese. 'The guys got out there and raced hard. Clearly we still have workto do, but there were some segments of the race that we can build on'.
The team will be in action again next weekend at the Newport Fall Regatta inNewport Beach, Calif. The freshman and varsity squads will be racing.
