Juricova Advances to Singles Final at Wilson/ITA Regional

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4-ranked California women's tennis sophomore Jana Juricova earned two victories on Sunday, Oct. 25, in the 2009 Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championship at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium for the right advance to the singles championship match. The top-seeded Golden Bear defeated No. 26-ranked junior Mari Andersson, seeded sixth, in the quarterfinal, 6-0, 6-1, before she took out eighth-seeded No. 56 Katrina Zheltova of Sacramento State, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinal. Juricova will face No. 58-ranked Denise Dy of Washington in the singles final at 11:30 a.m. PT, on Monday, Oct. 26.
Andersson and Juricova also played on the same side of the court as the top-seeded doubles team and defeated Logan Hansen and Jennifer Yen of Stanford, 8-4, in the quarterfinal round. The No. 2-ranked tandem will take on the seventh-seeded team of Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan of Stanford in one doubles semifinal at 10 a.m. PT (Oct. 26). The second seed and third seed meet in the other doubles semifinal as No. 17 Joyce Ardies and Dy of Washington take on No. 3 Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette of Stanford. The doubles championship match takes place in the afternoon, following the conclusion of the singles championship match.
No. 18-ranked junior Marina Cossou fell, 6-0, 6-4, to 14th-seeded Mallory Burdette of Stanford in her singles quarterfinal match. Cossou and freshman Annie Goransson held the fifth seed in the doubles tournament but were eliminated in the quarterfinal by Barte and Burdette, 8-2.
