Last weekend, the Cats (4-11-1, 1-4-0) defeated in-state rival Arizona State for the second time in school history 2-1 in double overtime. Red shirt junior Alex Davis broke at 462 minute scoring drought with her goal in the 15th minute of play, and freshman Alex Smith scored her first collegiate goal, and the game winner, in the 106th minute.
Smith was also named to CS360’s Primetime Performers of the Week #9 (Oct. 19-25) for her efforts against the Sun Devils. Click here for complete release.
Red shirt senior Devon Wharf had seven saves on the night, four of which came in the second half. Wharf was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for her stellar in-goal efforts.
About the Bears: Last weekend California dropped both matches against the Washington schools, losing to Washington State 2-1 in overtime, and losing 1-0 to Washington. The Bears are 8-7-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.
About the Cardinal: Stanford is currently the consensus No. 1 team in the country at 17-0, 6-0 in conference. The Cardinal defeated Washington State 2-1 in overtime, and Washington 3-0. Against Washington State, the Cougars scored first on the Cardinal, making it the first time in 13 matches that Stanford was down in any margin in a game. Stanford quickly recovered to bring the game into overtime.
