Pac-10 Men's Basketball Media Day: Oregon
Oct. 29, 2009
Oregon Head Coach Ernie Kent
“I see Craig (Robinson) in the back and I know that he will appreciate this. While traveling a lot this summer, I am constantly asked if I am the coach of Oregon State, then asked if I am the President’s [Barack Obama] brother-in-law. I know I have said yes many times. I know that Craig would appreciate that and I know he gets that a lot.
This season we are bigger and stronger than last year. We return nine players from last year. This is the most athletic basketball team we have had since I have been at Oregon. The hope is to extend the defense. We need to find our rhythm early, then I feel we that we can compete.”
Where the leadership will come from?
“Leadership comes when freshmen turn into sophomores. We have some personnel that can step into that position. Joevan Catron has experience and TaJaun Porter will be the leaders. We have several guys who can step into this role this season.”
What will be Mike Dunlap’s influence?
“Mike has been a great addition. His biggest influence will be on the defensive end. We don’t think we will play a lot of zone because we don’t know a lot of about it but we will press and extend our defense. Mike has also given us an opportunity to hit the road in recruiting and show them the solid staff that we have put together here.”
