California and Washington Ranked in ESPN/USA Coaches Poll and AP Preseason Rankings

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- In the ESPN/USA Coaches Poll and Associated Press men’s basketball preseason rankings that were released earlier this week, CALIFORNIA and WASHINGTON were among the teams ranked in the preseason top 25.
In the ESPN/USA poll, the Golden Bears were picked No. 12 with the Huskies following at No. 13. UCLA and USC also received votes.
In the AP poll, California was slated at No. 13, while the Huskies followed at No. 14. The Bruins were the only other team in the Conference to receive votes.
At Thursday’s Annual Pac-10 Media Day in Los Angeles, the Golden Bears were picked to capture the men’s basketball title in 2009-10, gathering 24 first-place votes according to a poll of media members who cover Pac-10 basketball. The Huskies, the defending Pac-10 Champion, picked up seven first-place votes and were tabbed for second place. UCLA, which picked up the remaining five first-place votes was slotted at third and USC was ninth in the media polling.
The start of the season is less than a couple weeks away. The Bears tip-off the 2009-10 campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 11, hosting Detroit on ESPNU. The rest of the league officially gets the season started on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and Nov. 14.
