Jimenez, Wiedeman Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 Team

BERKELEY - California midfielder Hector Jimenez and forward Andrew Wiedeman were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 Men's Soccer Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Friday. Jimenez and Wiedeman are now candidates for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer team.
The members of CoSIDA vote on the Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams. The voting period for the Academic All-America team begins on Nov. 3.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's games.
Jimenez, athletically a junior but academically a senior, is Cal's leader in assists, with eight, and ranks third at Cal in points (10). He also leads the conference and is 17th nationally in assists per game (0.53).
Wiedeman, a junior, leads the Bears in points (23), goals (10) and game-winning goals (5). A member of the 2009 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, Wiedeman also the leads the Pac-10 in goals and game-winning goals and is tied for the lead in points. Also in the conference, Wiedeman ranks second in points per game (1.53) and third in goals per game (0.67). In the national statistical rankings, he ranks 18th in points per game and 14th in goals per game.
Cal takes on Washington in a vital Pac-10 Conference clash at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, in Seattle.
