Nov. 1, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - Senior forward Kelley O'Hara broke Stanford's single-season points records while helping the No. 1 Cardinal clinch a share of the Pacific-10 Conference women's soccer title with a 4-0 victory over Arizona on Sunday.
O'Hara scored from the top of the box in the 33rd minute to tie Sarah Rafanelli's 16-year-old season goal-scoring record with 20, and broke Rafanelli's points mark with a 58th-minute assist to Christen Press for her 49th point.
Stanford (19-0, 8-0), which also got goals from Mariah Nogueira and Teresa Noyola, captured its first conference title since 2002 and sixth overall. The Cardinal has clinched the Pac-10's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and can win the conference title outright with at least a draw in the regular-season finale against visiting California on Sunday (1 p.m.), or a UCLA draw or loss in the Bruins' final two matches.
More details, and comments from players and coach Paul Ratcliffe, will be posted shortly.
